Accessibility conformance

We build to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and test it on every change. This page says what that covers and how it is checked.

What we claim

Substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, verified by our own testing on every change rather than by a review at one point in time. The next section is what that testing covers.

What we check, every time

  • Automated checks run against every page state on every change, and a single violation fails the build. Not a sample, and not a page at a time.
  • Every interactive thing here works from a keyboard alone, including the availability grid — which is built keyboard-first rather than retrofitted.
  • Nothing needs a drag. Every place you can drag to select, you can also do one at a time with a pointer or with the arrow keys and space, which is SC 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures — and the criterion most tools in this category fail, because a drag-select grid with no alternative is the normal way to build one.
  • Colour never carries meaning on its own. Everything that uses colour also uses a shape, a word or a number.
  • Contrast is checked against AA in both the light and dark themes, automatically.
  • Nothing scrolls sideways at 320 pixels or at 200% zoom.
  • Every page works with JavaScript switched off.

We'll put a conformance report together for your procurement process, free, on every plan including the free one — and we'd rather do it before a deal stalls on it than after. Ask at support@whenabouts.me.

We commission a VPAT 2.5Rev from an independent auditor when a buyer needs one, and this page names the auditor and the date as soon as it exists. Tell us what your process asks for and we'll tell you right away whether we can supply it today or need to arrange it.

How to complain

To us first, at the address above. If we don't sort it out, you can take it to the accessibility regulator where you live — in Ontario that is under the AODA, and in the United States under Section 508 or the ADA depending on who is buying.
