When2meet's paint-the-grid idea is a good one, and Whenabouts works the same way, then ranks the best times and lets you lock one in. Here's how the two compare, from When2meet's own site.

What else Whenabouts does

  • A ranked list of up to five best times, each naming whoever can't make it.
  • “Only times everyone can make” and “Without”, to see the results without one person.
  • Lock in a time, and everyone who left an email gets it with a calendar file.
  • Anyone who leaves an email gets a link to change their answer later, from any device.
  • Names can stay hidden until you close the poll, so nobody follows the crowd.
  • The grid works with a mouse, a finger, a keyboard, or as plain checkboxes with JavaScript off.
  • Sign-up sheets and RSVPs, for when the question isn't “when”.

When When2meet might suit you better

  • Everyone you're asking already knows When2meet, as a lot of students do, and you only need the grid.
  • You'd rather nothing about the poll involved email at all.
  • You like that it's run on donations, and you'd like to support it.

Questions people ask

Is it as quick as When2meet?
Making a poll takes about the same: a title, your name, the days and the hours. Answering is the same idea, painting the times you're free.
Do people need an account to answer?
No. They mark their times, type a name and press “Save my times”. An email is optional.
Is Whenabouts free?
Yes. Free has no time limit and no card to enter. A free page takes up to 200 responses, and a sign-up sheet up to 200 rows. A free page that nobody has answered for 12 months is deleted, with a warning first.
